Past UVP Meetings

The Association for Undergraduate Education at Research Universities hosts a biennial National Conference in the Washington D.C. area in November of even years and Undergraduate Vice President (UVP) Meetings twice per year. The UVP Meetings are held in different regions of the country, usually in October/November and then May/June on the campus of one of our member institutions. When the fall UVP Meeting coincides with the National Conference, the two are held on consecutive dates in the D.C. area.

The UVP Meetings provide two opportunities each year for UERU leaders to meet in person (in addition to opportunities for online engagement). These meetings are designed for UVPs but also often feature a specialized colloquium for select colleagues. While participation in the UVP meetings is typically restricted to leaders who are designated as the principal UERU liaison (or, on occasion, their designee), host institutions showcase relevant activities on their campus.

National Conferences feature speakers who are nationally recognized for their leadership in R1/2 undergraduate education. These meetings focus on critical challenges research universities face, such as promotion of meaningful diversity, inclusion, and equity; student success; learning and assessment of learning outcomes; building collaborative partnerships; innovative uses of technology; general education/core curriculum reform; academic advising; etc.

Nine national conferences have been held since the Association for Undergraduate Education at Research Universities was founded in 2000. Principal funding to support invited speakers and other expenses of the conference has been provided by the National Science Foundation. These conferences have typically drawn between 200 and 400 research university faculty and administrators as well as officials from public and private funding agencies, professional societies, and various regional accrediting bodies.
