Launching UERU's Undergraduate STEM Education Community
Tuesday, June 24, 2025 | 2:00pm ET | Zoom
All interested UERU members are welcome to attend. This community will convene university leaders, STEM deans/department chairs, and STEM education experts from leading research institutions in service of implementing the UERU-inspired National Academies consensus committee report on Transforming Undergraduate STEM Education. Our goals for this community are to celebrate research university leadership in undergraduate STEM, spur further progress among participating institutions, and set a standard for the good of higher education.
During this meeting, you’ll have a chance to meet fellow STEM education leaders from peer research universities and learn about the community's structure, expectations, and goals. We’ll also welcome the co-leads of this community, Dr. Cassandra Volpe Horii (Stanford University) and Dr. Michael Palmer (University of Virginia), who will chair future meetings and lend their expertise to the process of advancing cross-campus change.
Don’t forget to save the date for our UERU National Conference next January 21-22, 2026, which will again be co-located with AAC&U in Washington DC. We anticipate creating space for several panels on UG STEM as well as other dedicated time for engaging with your colleagues. The call for participants will be available by July 1.
We are looking forward to seeing UERU make real, substantive progress in this area and, we anticipate, setting a new, higher standard for undergraduate STEM education at research universities. We hope you can join us. Please feel free to share this message with others on your campus who may be interested in attending.
